OT: Dealing with Rejection --an autobiography

Please don’t make too much of my
episode with Monica. It was a
passing thing and the camera angle
makes it look like more was going
on than really was. ‘He loveth best
who lovethest all things both great
and small’ includes aardvarks, yes?

I don’t think it is: I’ve edited a journal for academic readers and the amount of crap you receive in submissions is quite frightening. If I ran a philosophical journal, I would want to err on the side of rejection. If there is a power imbalance in that arena, it runs the other way: Big name authors vs. brilliant no-names. That’s why I like journals that have the class to only accept anonymous submissions. You see that in philosophy but hardly anywhere else. In medicine, for example, you couldn’t publish the vaccine for AIDS if you didn’t have a big-shot name in the by-line.

And Zubvika: I call your bet. The stench isn’t any worse in public than it is in private. Ok, so passing out in public is embarrassing but it’s worth it to see you become the instant enemy of all animal-rights organizations on the planet.

Told you not to challenge me!

I’m gonna slaughter a couple dozen them oy!!sters*, and publicly, too, in less than three hours!

  • Nossir I’m not being cheap when called on a bet:
  1. I couldn’t tell an aardvark if I saw one; to me it’s just an entry in the Guinness, or is it Webster’s ?
  2. Thanks god no-one breeds Yorkshire terriers in Mesquer, Far Ouest. Or bass recorders, for that very matter. They’re city dwellers. And they sneeze. Maybe it’s related? **

** Hmm, see what happens to me in a philosophy thread ? Well, I could get published : I’m already starting not to understand my own writing. Semantic activism is a good start.

(edited to change “terr(bleep)ism” to “activism”, just in case someone steel uses software to monitor the net.)

Not to worry!

I gladly accept sunshine via any
available orifice! I learned that
from Monica. Best to all

Jim,

First, let me offer sunshine via a conventional route … “Go outside. Look up.”

Second, about five years ago, when my daughter was still in high school, she was offered the chance to take a course at the nearby college. She chose, of all things, philosophy. She found it interesting, I think, and we joked about her becoming a corporate philosopher.

Now, after college (with a degree in history), she’s a tour guide at the Winchester mansion in San Jose.

She’s apparently happy, and her being employed is a plus, even though it’s not exactly a job that requires a degree–what could I be about the situation but philosophical?

M

PS–Zoob, the Oyster Protection League called looking for you.

OK, Jim, so what do you think of Stephen Hawking? Seems he got the first punch in, Uified Field Theory ONE! Philosophers and Relligion ZIP! Snerk Snerk Snerk!

M, sheesh… They got no–(burp)–hard evidence.

HEY ! 0:00 (GMT+1) HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!!

Capital philosophy book, as I see it, though. Hee-hee :stuck_out_tongue: the bit about the virtual matter/antimatter shine around black holes! Ain’t that lovely? All this out a wheelchair. And he proved right!
