I don’t know why but I’ve lost sound on my computer. Midis will play but other sounds won’t. No blips or bloops no noise. Yup the speakers are on. My CD player will read a cd. Call up info from the net and know what it is playing, it shows it is playing but no noise comes out. When I try to load a CD-Rom nothing happens it just jams the computer. Should I call an expert?
My first thought would be the drivers for your sound card. Reload them and cross your fingers. Also, check for IRQ conflicts.
Also you may want to double-click on your sound icon in the toolbar and make sure nothing is muted.
Yeah, somebody (the last person using the computer) might have just put it on mute.
Nothing but the microphone was muted so that must be ok. How do I reload the drivers? IRQ conflicts are…?
This could get desperate. My Mad for Trad whistle CDRom won’t play or do anything.
Arggggh. I give. I’m going to bed.
Sometimes a reboot can fix sudden problems.
I had that happen to my computer just recently. Oh how frustrating! I have several music programs installed. And to not be able to listen my work was frustrating.
I did a maintenance scan through hp for audio and it said that the sound card was not functioning.
Now here is the kicker…
After a couple days… when I went to turn on my computer, the dos screen came up, cannot recall what it said, I clicked ok… and walla, I have sound again. It fixed itself! Now how often does that happen?
So glad that we waited.

The best place to start is always to restart…your computer, that is. Very often that will fix whatever was wrong.
