We enjoy Halloween, but have always stayed away from any full-fledged mainstream Halloween activities. This year, however, we’re taking our teenage daughter and her friend up to Connecticut to an actual theme park and haunted graveyard. Any scary tunes you can suggest? although some would say that any tunes played by me would be scary…wake up the dead? What’s the best Halloween whistle?
Oh well, I guess this is as close as I’ll get to my lifelong desire to spend a night in a _real_haunted house.
On Halloween I will be in North Carolina performing a legal handfasting ceremony. I am a little bummed to miss out on the trick-or-treat fun with my munchkins though…
If it’s warm enough I’m going sit on the front porch and deliver tasty tooth-rotting/hyperactivity inducing candies to the neighborhood kiddies. Our particular block must be the most active in the city on Halloween. I know people who bring their kids here from other parts of town. About 5 or 6 of the neighborhood kids were here a couple of hours ago to show off their costumes and they were very cute. They were doubtless drawn to my house by my beeyootiful flute playing.
Most American Colonial or Celtic harvest tunes are good for Halloween but the SCARIEST ,IMO, is Micheal Jackson’s “Thriller”. Nothing on Earth is scarier than that freak!!!(he he).
For this halloween, I’ll probably repeat last years performance.
I’ll dress up in a renfest shirt, pants, and hat and sit on the front stoop doing my pied piper. I’ll have my bowl of candy on the side and play some tunes on whistle and flute between the visits of the kids and their parents. Last year, I think the kids though it was odd, but I think the parents enjoyed the entertainment; kind of a treat for the ears, while their kids havested their trick-or-treat goodies.
I have to admit, it’s mostly my excuse to play for my neighbors and share my love of the music.
