Hey fellow computer geeks:
I burned an audio CD last night and am listening to it now. The left and right stereo tracks seem to be reversed. Any ideas on what caused this? I didn’t do the wiring on my (homebuilt) computer myself, but I suspect there are swapped audio cables somewhere maybe? Can someone jot down a quick “Dummies guide to rewiring a cd burner”? 
CD players (and burners) have an audio wire that runs to the input of the sound card. Depending on the system, it’s usually a small connector plugged into a 3 or 4 prong input located on the motherboard (with built in sound) or a plug-in sound card.
Pull the connector off, turn it 180 degrees and plug it back in. This will swap the sides that the music CD plays thru.
Gotcha. I shall perform an investigation this evening.
It’s weird, listening to a session where certain people were on one side and hearing them on the other, hehe.
Beth… go back an analize this.
If you were playing in a session with recorder in hand, then person playing on your right side would then be heard on your right speaker for the playback on your computer.
However if you had the microphone facing the group (instead of within the group) sounds that were right of you should now be coming from the left speaker.

I found the wire, but it doesn’t seem to be able to turn 180 deg - looks like they only go in one way. The card manual isn’t much help, page 27 of the pdf ( http://www.soundblaster.com/manuals/AudigyeX.pdf ) has a diagram but according to it I am set up correctly. (analog output)
The question to ask first is do your regular (commercial) CDs play correctly? If not then you probably have your speakers plugged in backwards. The positioning is usually marked on the back of each speaker.
The next step might be to burn a duplicate copy of a CD where you know the channels are recorded correctly. If the copy comes out backwards then its time to return the CD burner. Most all internal computer connections nowadays are keyed so they only fit the correct way.
If it’s too late to return the CD burner then try a program like Goldwave
which will allow you to reverse the channels on a stereo recording. Then when your CD burner switches the channels they will be correct.
Beth, if the plugs are polarized you have to rewire one end. It’s easy but you’ll need a pin
Most connectors are 3 wire (L,R,ground) some have 4 wires (the 4th being a redundant ground)
Work on the black connector that plugs into CD as it’s easiest to hold.
At the end on each wire is a tiny metal probe that press fits into a slot or square hole in the connector. When fully inserted a thin keeper clicks so you can’t pull the wire out.
Lift the keeper with the pin just enough to pull the wire/probe out. Do this to the white and red wires.
Plug the red wire where the white wire was and the white wire where the red wire was (say that three times fast) and voila!
you’ve successfully changed L/R channels.
If a tiny puff of white smoke comes out from your CD drawer let me know and I’ll delete these instructions…
Got another question. I have a bunch of Session wav files I am burning to CD but when I listen to the final cd, it seems like on some tracks a fraction of time is getting cut off the end of the track. Probably less than a second. But it’s irritating, if there is a comment someone makes at the end of a tune, it gets cut off. This may be happening on every track but is just not noticible unless someone is saying something.
Any ideas one what causes this? If it makes a difference I am recording in “Disk at once” mode which supposedly gets rid of the two second gap between tracks. I can try a different setting though. This setting was recommended because before I was having a problem with a little burst of noise at the end of some later tracks during a burn.
