OT: Bundy Clarinet For Sale

My kid decided on choir instead of band, and I’ve fallen in love with whistles, so it’s time to let this clarinet go to a more deserving owner. It is a Bundy Resonite Selmer. It has newer pads, mostly newer corks and is in great condition. If you’re interested, or if you have any questions, please send me a private message. I’m asking $150.00, but will consider any reasonable offer.
Thanks,
Cindy

I’m not interested in buying the clarinet but is resonite the same thing as ebonite? My first clarinet was a Bundy made of Ebonite. I think they’re pretty good instruments for a beginner.

Steve

I really don’t know. I just know that it is Resonite because it is printed on the bell. I wanted to add a picture of it, but I’m not sure how to do that. I can e-mail it, though, if anyone wants to see it.

Resonite is form of plastic (black colored) that many Student Clarinets are made of. It seems to last quite a while.

Thanks Daniel. It must be pretty durable because it is still very shiny; no cracks or chips.

If I remember correctly, Resonite was used in student clarinets for a couple reasons. One was ease and cost of manufacture, the other is that many of those instruments were also used as marching instruments in all kinds of weather. Rain would kill a nice ebony clarinet, plus most students are not skilled at wood maintenance. If the instrument has the nice, heavier keys it’ll last quite a long time and still play nicely. From what I understand, new student instruments these days have a cheaper type of key that bends easier than older models.

I was rebuilding a Clarinet for someone recently and noticed yellow marks on the keys. Well, I thought ‘this Clarinet has had a lot of miles it probably has brass keys and will need replating’. Well, I took all the keys off, started clean and polishing them and lo and behold - the yellow stuff came off. The keys just had a yellow tarnish or something. Turned out very nice. A little cleaning, new pads, oiling and it’s good as new.
