OT: Bowling for Columbine

You must see it. It’s simply one of the best movies I’ve seen in my life.
Chris

I have to agree, it is a wonderful movie. Some of the things you hear coming out of Charlton Heston’s mouth are simply astounding.

Seth

I REALLY want to see this and hope I can talk my daughter into going with me. Just to clarify - it’s a documentary, right?

Susan

NPR did several pieces when it came out, interviews, reviews.

If this works, you’ll go to the search results page I got when I looked for “Bowling for Columbine.”

And if it doesn’t work, well, start at http://www.npr.org and put your query into the “search” field.

I can’t wait to see it. I’m a big fan of Michael Moore.

Dale

Seth,
I know. I could not believe it. Charleton Heston, the President of the NRA, actually said, in front of a camera, that reason for so much gun violence in the USA is because we have so many non-whites living here. I wasn’t surprised that he’d think something like that (though of course I disagree 500%) but I was stunned that he said it on camera in an interview.

Can you enlighten me ?

What’s NRA ? All I could figure out from previous post was Nat. Rednecks’ Association,
but I guess this would be too simple.

NRA stands for National Rifle Association.
Chris

Thanks Chris. I wasn’t too far. But now I shan’t
associate it with the N. Recorders Association.

For those worried that this movie is simply about criticizing the NRA, it’s not. To the contrary, Michael Moore, the film-maker is a life-time member of the NRA.

Chris

Chris: Now there’s some cognitive dissonance??? Moore in the NRA???

I heard it all, now…

It’s true! He was a junior member as a kid and won the NRA Marksman Award as a teenager.
Chris

Just coming back from a journey through cinema pages, the interviews also mentioned here before in a link. I read that is won a price in Cannes for best documentary. German reviews about it were very interesting indeed, all pointing out how well researched and informative it is and that as well due to the way of making this documentary it can be also at times “highly entertaining”. The interview with Charlton Heston is mentioned in everyone and he seems to not give a good show this time. It is actually on program in Germany since 21.11. so no doubt I know where to go one evening this week. Thanks a lot for pointing this one out.

I apologize!

I’ll see if I can fix it.

FROM michaelmoore.com FAQ

Q. Are you really a member of the NRA?
A. Yes. I currently hold a “Life Membership.” I was a junior member and won the NRA Marksman Award when I was a teenager (back when the NRA was known as a gun safety and sportsman organization). I went hunting with the neighborhood kids but there were never any guns in our house. After Columbine, I decided that I would run against Charlton Heston for the presidency of the NRA. If elected, my plan was to try to return the NRA to a gun safety organization, instead of its current agenda of gun fanaticism. The rules said that to run for president, you had to be a member for the past five years or buy a lifetime membership for $750. And that’s what I did. But after a while I realized this endeavor was going to take too much time, so I decided to focus all my attention on the movie I was making.

Ya me too…

Michael Moore is my hero. I just thought I would say this here because I can’t say it where I live . . . .
Lisa

I agree about him being a hero. The film is FANTASTIC, and I hugely admire Mr. Moore–and I don’t admire that many “famous” people. He didn’t pull any punches in the film, and let people make their own conclusions. Go see it if you haven’t yet!
