wow, makes me think, like…pop

Don’t worry about it, Jessie! Here’s why:
Shania Twain, as far as I know, doesn’t play the whistle, so you have it all over her anyway!

My own midriff isn’t any smaller!
![]()
Yeah, me too!
Jim, Shania Twain doesn’t need to play the whistle…she hires Leahy (Canadian Irish band, all siblings) to accompany her. But I don’t want to be her anyway. I like my life.

just to set the record straight, shania twain is a cutie-pie too.
Jessie, Amar, Brass, Jessie, Amar, Brass…
Let’s keep this going! ![]()
My wife wants to know:
!!! WHERE ARE THE STRETCH MARKS !!!
![]()
Hee hee. Just lucky, I guess. I read that stretch marks are hereditary. Before I started to show at all, I had a friend who was pregnant and she said she wouldn’t let me see her belly because she was so upset about her stretch marks. I thought this was ridiculous! The thought of stretch marks didn’t bother me at all (nature, all good stuff, and besides, I am never going to wear a bikini anyway, and I have a good guy). I discussed it with Dan and he said it wouldn’t bother him at all, either. I was fully prepared to get them and not care. But so far (34 weeks down, 6 to go), I don’t have any. My mom and my paternal grandmother didn’t get them, either.
Of course, the photo quality isn’t so good and there are photo marks that could appear like stretch marks. Ah, whatever.
NorCal, you broke in and destroyed our pattern! Shame on you!

Sweety - you aren’t BIG yet - you still have a belly button. I knew it was hopeless when my belly button disappeared!!!
Missy
When I was an intern at the medical center in Charleston, WV, I hung out with a bunch of residents. Two were working on the maternity wards. One female resident came out of the delivery room and grabbed another female resident and said, “you gotta come in here and see this f***ing thing!” So the other female resident goes in with her and, of course, they are both very sweet to the woman who had just given birth to her first child. The mother was very, very beautiful–like a model or something. She had had her baby an hour or so before and her stomach was already impossibly flat and devoid of stretch marks. That was what the resident wanted the other resident to see. It was just comical seeing them being so sweet and solicitous to the mother, and then coming out a cussing a blue streak over the woman looking so good after just having delivered.
Hee hee. I imagine that my belly will sag, hang and bulge after delivery and look quite gross for a while, but I am hoping that I’ll still have the elasticity of youth on my side in the months that follow.
I didn’t have any stretch marks either. I got back to a size 10 almost immediately (was a 6 before I got pregnant). My stomach was gushy for a few months, but gradually returned to some semblance of what it was before over a period of several months. (I never had an incredibly flat one with a 6-pack, even in my teens). It was more age than pregnancy that made me have to fight the tummy bulge. I gave birth at 32, bounced back, then walked through a metabolic door of no return at 35! These days (age 39) I go back and forth between an 8 and a 10, but that’s OK. I have a life and so don’t have 3 hours a day to spend in the gym working out. I must look OK for my age–I’m getting married in July to a man 10 years my junior.
In the lobby of the new and luxurious Women’s wing at Evanston Hospital, there’s a statue of a young, slender woman, arms outstretched over her head, lifting a little baby up into the air. My midwife became fond of saying, after so many women sighed at the sight, “Oh that’s not the new mother! That’s the babysitter!”

I’m not concerned about baby weight. I will live a healthy lifestyle and see what happens. Dan knew he wasn’t marrying a supermodel.
Congratulations on the young guy, cj! Hee hee. I like my old(er) one.
I don’t have a 6-pack either. Mine’s more of a keg!

Thanks! I’m by no means a supermodel either. And I wasn’t looking for someone younger; in fact I was wary for that reason. The one I dated before him was 12 years older than I. So I’m not hung up on age, just want someone I can hang with. Susan Sarandon/Tim Robbins, Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell–they may be onto something!
I digress, but in fact, the whole older woman/younger man thing is getting to be more common. I read about a study of middle-aged singles (aged 40-60), which said that 1/3 of the women in the study were dating men at least 10 years younger! The study went on to say that the most successful relationships were ones in which the two partners had “voltage level” in common–whether you’re low-key, high-energy, or somewhere in between, regardless of age.
It’s funny to me that the movies seem to often cast men with leading ladies half their age, when in real life it’s not quite that common and the older woman/younger man thing is getting more so. (Most people still end up with someone near their age). Of course, in the movies, women are put out to pasture past about 40, but in real life, our lives actually go on after that. In fact, we even have full lives complete with fun and even romance.
Amazingly, even if we don’t look like Britney Spears or Shania Twain, we manage to persevere!
OK, that’s enough of my diatribe on middle-aged dating habits, Hollywood, life and the universe . . .
With life expectancy (women generally live longer than men), a woman going for a younger man (in a good marriage) is a smart thing! When I am 50, Dan will be 68. I should stop feeding him such rich food. I want him to know our grandchildren. ![]()
Dan sure doesn’t look his age, at least from what I saw of the pictures y’all have posted!
Yeah, he looks at least 10 years younger than he is (maybe even 15). He was a late bloomer. He has some habits he should have unlearned by second grade and certain areas of total disorganization, but he also has a very strong sense of responsibility when it comes to the really important things. Because he was 45 when he met me (and he’d spent a long time thinking he wouldn’t find someone he could share a life with), he is all the more appreciative of what we have together. This is his first marriage and will be his first child. ![]()
