We did a weird event on Friday for the jewelry business. We went to Madison Square Garden, where they were holding a huge pop music concert and set up a small booth in the “gift lounge.” There were 7 booths and I was the only jeweler. We were there to GIVE products to the music stars, in the hopes that they would love them and publicize them. Avril Lavigne loved the jewelry. She was really sweet and she asked my opinion on what would look good on her. I was surprised when she chose a Sunflower pendant, since she’s usually into a different sort of look than “girly.” It was a very nice encounter, but I was utterly thrilled when Dan called me over to look at the live video feed during her performance. She was wearing it! Yay!! Also, the Backstreet Boys liked the jewelry (three took things for their women and two took things for themselves) and they talked about it on the radio (Z100) with “Cubby,” the DJ, even mentioning my website address. Hee hee. I am not into pop music, but this event will have been very good for the business.

I had no idea who she was except by name until I saw a music video whilst channel-surfing. I thought she was pretty good actually, though kinda snarly.

Hell freezes over: And, speaking of rock stars, the Weekender went to a rock “event” for the first time in like, 20something years last evening in SF. They have a big ol’ fireworks show, preceded by garoovy rock bands. There was a once-local now-famous band called “Train” that I actually enjoyed.
Most of the time when I see rock types, I think of all the dexterity, variety and subtlety of our Celtic bands and other types of music and reject the former by comparison. These guys gave a good show and I managed to rise up out of the daily reality for a moment.
Thanks Chas…(sorry Jessie; will try to keep existential angst in check…) So I showed your link to my 15 year old daughter, thinking maybe she’d find something redeemable about C&F…she still thinks we’re a bunch of dorks but she likes your jewelry…not a bad result!
Well I absolutely cannot stomach avril lavigne’s music (or the general attitude she usually presents), or the backstreet boys, but I’m glad you had such a successful night! Hopefully you’ll get a lot of sales out of it in the near future. Best luck!

The thing is, if you post in a whistle forum something completely off-topic, about how you’re giving out jewels to famous people, i think we all appreciate it because we like you, but you should be open to getting some mild poking in return; it’s just fair.
Well, this was the second time in a few days that you posted that you would like me to send you instruments. The first was about the Copeland C. It was before I posted about Avril. I am not a rich person (though we are comfortable), and though I do enjoy doing nice things for people (and I tend to be generous with friends and loved ones), I don’t enjoy being asked for stuff as if it’s nothing, and I especially don’t enjoy it being requested in public. The first time someone does something like this, it is clearly a joke (such as in the Copeland C thread). The second time, one begins to think there is some truth behind it. Anyway, I find it inappropriate.
