Laura, pick up a cheap copy of Cakewalk from eBay or somewhere, don’t spend more than $20, but it will give you the ability to convert midi to wav, plus you can record multitrack audio and midi for some great backing tracks. I make instrumental tracks for singers in my church using Cakewalk.
There are some simple converter programs available on the internet if you don’t want something that does everything a studio recording engineer would need. I have Acoustica Mp3 to Wave Converter that I got I believe as shareware or freeware. It converts back and forth between Mp3 and wav. But, why do you need to convert? If you are burning cds, Adaptec Easy CD creator or even Music Match Jukebox that comes with many new pcs excludes this conversion problem. I need to convert from mp3 to wav because I use a program that slows music down without changing pitch, called Transkriber. If I record from cd to my harddrive (using Music Match), I have the option of my file format, but if I save an mp3 off the internet, or if someone email attaches an mp3 to me, I use my converter.
A little off topic, but watch out that when you have lots of mp3 players on your pc, like winamp, realplayer, music match, windows media player, etc. that they fight each other for dominion!

I have been using Simple MP3 maker. It’s real easy to use and converts from/to all the popular music formats (MP3, WAV, MIDI). Use Google and search for Simple MP3. It’s free too.
