Hiya, I was thinking about applying for a job in Kirtland, Ohio which is about 15-20 miles east of Cleveland.
Anyone live near there or know if there’s a good trad. Irish music following in the area?
Thanks for any info!

I’m fairly new to Irish Trad and have not explored it much, but Cleveland has two Irish festivals every summer. There is also an East Side Irish American club and a West side one, according to someone who lives on the west side. I have not sought them out either, but am planning to do so to find a whistle teacher. I doubt that in Kirtland there is much. Kirtland is a small town about 30 miles east of Cleveland, which is mainly a buffer between the agricultural eastern Ohio counties, including Amish country, and the eastern suburbs of Cleveland. It’s hilly and forested and very pretty, especially in the fall. It is also the home of the original Church of Latter Day Saints, which is now something else.
Cleveland is a very ethnic community and I bet you can find Irish music,
I will say that it’s hard to find a decent whistle shop.
I agree with all John said.
I live a few blocks outside Cleveland in the western suburb of Lakewood. On the west side, where most of the Irish immigrants settled, there is an enthusiastic but small Irish Trad “scene”. My whistle teacher (from Achill) also leads a ceili band. There are several Irish dance schools that have produced some champions over the years. As John said, there is a strong ethnic subculture in NE Ohio, esp. Irish, Italian and all Slavic countries. Kirtland is a pretty place and near enough to get into Cleveland for an evening out.

Not exactly…the first temple was built there, but when the members of the church left Kirtland, the R-LDS church later took it over. The church was actually organized in New York State.
