OT: Anyone have access to car junkyards? Need a mirror...

Ford: 0 … Construction barrel: 1

:frowning:

I am in the market for the passenger side mirror assembly for a dark blue 1998 Ford Taurus. I figured I’d shoot out a request in case any of you folks are mechanics/hobbyists and might have a better source for me than the dealer.

Thanks, and don’t merge on my right… :stuck_out_tongue:

If you have a junkyard/wrecking yard in your area, you can buy directly from them, and generally save a bundle. That’s how I used to get ALL the parts for my '72 Peugeot. Look in the phonebook under “towing and wrecking”…then just give 'em a call and tell 'em what you’re looking for.

Or do an internet search for auto parts used. I can’t remember the site, but I got a headlight assembly for my car at a fraction of the cost of new. Then there’s the satisfaction of doing these simple repairs yourself. Almost as good as learning a new tune!

Yup! And replacing a mirror is pretty easy.

Another thing about wrecking yards…often, if they don’t have the part you need, they will call around for you and, if they can find it, have it delivered to their yard. There’s generally a slight upcharge from what they would charge you if they’d had it in stock, but still one heck of a lot cheaper than buying new from the dealer.

I love wrecking yards…they’re like discount toy stores for car lovers!
