We just got back from our two-week camping/family wedding get-together vacation. I must say it was great, I only got in a little bit of whistling, though. Also, my husband’s relatives really know how to put on a big shindig! Anyways, the last three nights we stayed in Allegheny National Forest in northwestern PA; for anyone that likes such things, it was really great! We also checked out nearby Allegany State Park in New York state, and it is really gorgeous. Good fishing, tons of deer and groundhogs, immense boulders at Thunder Rocks, and great scenery. When I was a kid I remember driving up there just to see the deer on a regular basis, as we lived in nearby Bradford, PA. Not much has changed in those 30 years, it’s still a gorgeous park. The hiking is also great, although it was limited with our kids along. Kinzua Dam is an interesting side-trip too. It’s so nice to go to large wild areas like this; even though there were quite a few people around in the camping areas, one could still appreciate the woodlands for what they are.
