But, that’s just me. 
I understand how you can feel like this. I mean, it’s not as if you were leaving for Ireland in a few days.

I’ve seen all three spellings in recent posts, and now I’m confused.
Are different spellings used in British and American English?

It’s spelled just the way your spirit moves you to spell it. There’s never any wrong spelling. Like right now, I just want to say…

Note the lesser presence of the G. The emphasis, in my case, at this point, is really on the last letter, H.
My spirit has moved me to say it again…

The short form is argh, obviously.
You can use that, Jerry, and people will understand you in any language and any country. Try it next time you’re in Zimbabwe or Afghanistan. It works.

As it happens, I’m on the phone right now making arrangements for a tour of Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. It will be extremely useful to be able to make myself understood to the local people there.

Well, in the pirate dialect most commonly used at my house, one would most likely say “aahhhrrg”
But, as has been pointed out, the word lends itself to flexible usage.
One of our former favorite computer games, Freddi Fish, contained a delicious little pirate ditty which I will excerpt here:
“Aargh when I’m happy,
Aargh when I’m sad,
Aargh when I’m good or bad.”
looks good…but how does one pronounce it???
You know, I jus arrived from a great night with my family (what’s left of it) and I’m freaking drunk but I’ve walked on the main “night stree” of my city (St-Laurent, as moxy would recognize) and it sucks so much that my first reaction woulld be “Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” !!! . It’s so much about how you look and what you look to own, I just can’t fit in that stuff. Wow. Anyway, let’s “arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” for a while.
That one can be a bit difficult since different regions pronounce it differently. In the southern US it usually pronounced like !@# - $%^ - &* with a strong emphasis on the second syllable. In the north, it’s the third syllable that gets the emphasis. The Brits, as usual, have their own way of pronouncing things. They pronounce the second syllable the same way you would say the third syllable in -)! - **@ - $%^ but the first syllable gets more emphasis. And the Aussies… Well I haven’t been able to figure out how to phonetically spell the way they say it yet.

I think that the Brits would have a thing or two to say about that! Oh, and of course I have been prnounding !@#$%^&* with a northern accent all along. Good thing too…my Yankee friends might not understand if I were to put that strong emphasis on the second syllable rather than the third
