This sounds really weird, but you all KNOW I’m strange, so I am going to ask everybody here to mail me a small (about an inch), round, smooth pebble from your neck of the woods for a new sculpture I’ll be doing over the next year! It will be an installation of beaded rocks…I was thinking about calling it “The Stones in Drag.” Any other sugestions? Not that I don’t feel comfy about giving out my home address here, but maybe you could e-mail me for it? I need to track the pebbles.
Does it need to be indigineous? Do we go into the woods and start digging? I guess that would work.
Nope, not that much work, please…just a nice smooth round small pebble! Just a pebble from you would do nicely!
I never really thought about stones as being endowed with gender! 
The stones in my neck of the woods don’t come rounded. They are always chipped bits of concrete or asphalt. I’ll keep an eye out, though.
Heck, you can even buy one of those dang souvenier polished type stones they sell all over the place, a tumbled stone…haven’t figgered out out to bead a rough one yet!
Pebbles are not a problem where I live. This whole Island is one large mass of pebbles on bedrock. My garden grows pebbles, my shoes collect them and my dog used to eat them. Pebbles we have.
Now, do you want round as in roughly spherical or do you want round as in rounded (not sharp) edges?
Anna, I’m homeschooling my children this year and we’ve been working on a leaf exchange with some other homeschooling families throughout the United States-- this would be so much fun to add on to that, it’s totally the kind of thing we get a kick out of. We can mail it out when we mail our leaves.

Hi, Anna! Of course I’ll send you a pretty stone. I’m in alluvial clay with lots of pebbles from the glaciers, so should be able to find something spiffy and shiny!

I’ll look for some local pebbles. Most of the rock on the ground is limestone, which doesn’t round out much, usually just weathers into shards.
