Check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A486074, look up the Low Whistle entry :imp:
If that didn’t suffice see http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A301852 lookup Modern Times entry about the flageolet vs. recorder :stuck_out_tongue:
This BBC site pretends to be The Guide To Life, the Universe and Everything. Unfortunately. maybe, if it was written by the Depressed Misanthropic humanoid (is it Marvin ?), and edited by the Wedgeworth teapot-making coffee machine.
It’s below the level expected even from the infamous Encyclopaedia Galactica, let alone a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
I expected better from 21st century BBC than this piece of Encyc-limey-dia Anglicana.

Interesting site. I see they got the origin of the term “Uilleann Pipes” right.

Fromt the Bodhran entry:
The quality of an Irish traditional group is in inverse proportion to the number of bodhrĂĄn players it has.

Heh

Whoa, I didn’t know math was a required subject here!!!

From which BBC readers should conclude that the best Irish group is one with no bodhran at all. Proves anyone can progress. PassĂ© attitudes would have adviced suppressing any Irishman, after finding out banning pipes wasn’t enough

Don(t know how it happens, but I find myself stuttering.
Like double postings, double threads and double replies.

Dale, am I schizoid, or is it me Mac bugged ?

The ‘politically correct’ term is linguistically challenged.

Never mind
stuttering is a good term.

The term, “politically correct”, should be forever banished from our vocabulary!!!

Of course it should. It’s as if that term implies that correct politics is only that of those who dance around every word in the language, and are constantly playing games, and reinventing things.

Edited for uncooperative smilies.

All I tried was apologizing for a doubled thread :frowning:

Now, I certainly wouldn’t dare challenge you linguistically, since English is a foreign language to me and American even more. However
semantically, I don’t see how one can change a mere descriptive term (stuttering) into what I reckon–being “korrekt” or “proper”–to be a mere label with all the limits of the genre.

(edited in an desperate attempt of syntax)

I was only joking. What you said was fine.
