Oregon Sessions

OK, so I’m new to the board, but I’ve been tracking it for about a year and not until recently did I realize that there were a few people from Oregon. I’m wanting to know where to go to check out some live sessions. I’m sure that some of you Portlanders know of a pub or two. Maybe some in the central valley as well? If ya’ tell me I might buy ya a pint.

If you follow the link below, there is a page on the Annex site with links to several sites that have databasses listing sessions by city.

Uh, Sean, another option is perhaps choosing a local pub and starting your own session. Maybe there are ten or twelve people in your area who can play but arent because noone has started a local session.

Well, I’m currently in Oregon… (visiting my Dad and other relatives…), and I’d like to find out about some sessions here because I brought my whistles and… well… you get the jist. grin

Well, I’m a wisslin’ newbie, but I’m a demon with the Guinness, so if you guys get together let me know.

http://www.nonvi.com/sm/pubs.html and http://www.free-music-education.com/mainpage_012.htm have some info on PDX sessions, never been to one. Artichoke Music (Really cool shop) in Hawthorne seems to be the hub for all of this stuff

Here’s what I’ve heard about in Portland, though I haven’t been to any of them.

Sunday 7pm, Biddy McGraw’s, all levels welcome.
Monday, Alberta St Public House, advanced.
Tuesday, Alberta St. Public House, beg-intermediate.
Wednesday, Biddy McGraw’s, int-adv?
First Friday of each month, Friendly House Community Center, slow learning session, all levels welcome

Debra

Thanks for the info. Looks like I’m resigned to the drive to Portland to Biddy McGraw’s. I mean it’s only a two hour drive right? Jaysus, and that’s one way. Make a weekend of it I guess. Ah well I didn’t wanna drive home anyway right? This just means more time for whiskey ‘n’ beer.

when i was in ashland last year i noticed there was an irish pub. i don’t know if they have sessions or not. nor do i remember even the name of the pub. probably not a lot of help but who knows.

Sean, let me know when you’re coming to Portland and maybe I’ll get my family to let me come listen. Wouldn’t dream of joining in (it’s that cat strangling thing discussed in the playing in line thread), but I’m good at appreciating.

Debra,
I’ll definitely let ya’ know, but I’m probably not gonna play either (well depending on how many beers I have). I just wanted to know where locally I could find some live musicians to listen to and learn from. And the whole strangled cat thing is pretty universal. You should hear my buddy whose learning pipes, now that’s a strangled cat.
