I tried to take the intelligence test, but it told me that my puppy was a free spirit that preferred Alpo to Purina. I can only assume that this is psycho-babble for “you are one intelligent puppy”.
Dale, can you confirm this for me?
Thanks,
Erik
p.s. I also found out that my cat is a virgo with a deep seated desire to become a rock star.
Meh. I’ve taken that thing. I’ve gotten everything from 110 to 140 depending on what mood I was in when I took the blasted thing. I don’t think it’s particularly accurate, to say the least.
I scored 4th percentile on our in-school test (Stanford) one year and 96th the next. My guidance counsellor showed this to me and said something to the effect that this is a classic example of what a crock of shit these are.
Edison said that genius is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.
I thought it was a pretty good test too. As there are in most of these, though, there was at least one question with an ambiguous answer:
Which one of these five is least like the other four?
Mule
Kangaroo
Cow
Deer
Donkey
On the one hand, the kangaroo is not a hoofed mammal. On the other hand, the mule can’t reproduce. Which is more important?
I had no problem with that question and I pity you poor people who don’t have the intellectual capacity to grasp it. Only ONE of these animals is able to wear boxing gloves.
The cow is the only one that is kept to produce meat/milk.
The mule is ‘man made’.
The kangaroo is a marsupial AND moves via hopping. It is most different.
Dale, where you’ve administered 1000 IQ tests in your life, I think that I’ve taken just about the same. My dad was doing his graduate work and I was a frequent guinea pig. Though I do remember him saying that the accuracy of the test was diminished if repeated… is this true?
You’re one to talk. I happen to know that your avatar, translated into English, means “Run bloody fingernails down a blackboard while grinding your teeth and with your hair on fire.”
…and who will be the first to identify the individual in my new avatar?
(I’m still in Halloween mode. And this, my friends, is one scary avatar.)
To paraphrase Forest Gump, genius is as genius does. I know someone who scored in the super genius category, but spends their days playing 6-hole, simple system instruments and making posts to internet message boards. What’s the use of that? Better to be of average, or even below average, intelligence and make useful, productive contributions to society.
P.S. - I don’t know what Dale’s new aviator is, but it’s scaring the crap out of me.
Gee, with a score of 142 I’m a “visionary philosopher” – does my score drop to 60 and my description to “gullible chump” if I pay the 15 bucks for the full report?
Actually, I suspect that most really good “IQ” tests have some ambiguous answers. They almost have to if they are to accomplish their stated goal of measuring how you think. I.e. the question you mention probably scores “correct” for either mule or kangaroo (and maybe even cow, as a domesticated food animal) - but which one you choose helps form a profile of how your logic processes work.
This particular question could even serve dual purposes – answer mule, kangaroo, or cow and the program uses the response to indicate how your thought processes work, answer deer and the program considers you a donkey and adjusts your score appropriately.
