I for one can never remember that acronym. I prefer AWOL: Acquired Whistle Ownership Lunacy.
Buy a horse. All too often this word becomes foremost in your mind
John
P.S. I recommend a Tennessee Walker
I recommend an Arabian, for looks, or a Paso Fino, for the supreme comfortableness of gaits.

An Arabin? Why in the world would you want to inflick that kind of greef on anyone? And you seen how people bounce on a Paso Fino? For a good ride stick with the Tennessee horse. ![]()
John
I second both the Walking Horse(the ride and temperment can’t be beat) and the Arab(sheer beauty to look at and so smart-much like a good dog). I’ve had both. Merrylegs-the walker- was my 16hand tall constant companion when I was growing up,Pete-could only do a running walk and flat walk, even loose in the field he never galloped, the smoothest ride in the world and East Wind-better known as George- was a beautiful Polish Arab that was sharp, hyper, grey, and a top winner in English Arabian class with a great “floating trot”. My Dad and I had several others but these three taught me to love both breeds.
Now, the Paso-IMHO- is as beautiful as the Arab but the ride, no comparison to a true natural flat walking Walking Horse.I once rode a National winner who was with the trainer of my Arab and he told me to try her and I’d forget about TN Walkers, well, It felt like riding a jack hammer to me. I know that there are those that like this gait , but it’s not for me. But then there are those who like to ride a pacing horse too. Go figure, to each his own I guess.
E=Fb,
I believe that we shouldn’t change the name of Wh0A, because if we did, I don’t see how a thread about it could turn into such a pleasant conversation about the horses.
Sincerely,

Just playing Devil’s Advocate here, but are you completely certain that you don’t just need a good mnemonics program?
I guess I can’t intelligently argue with you guys
because I have never ridden a Tennesee Walker. I have ridden a Paso Fino, though, and I thought it was much more comfortable than trotting on any other horses I’d ever ridden, including my lovely Arabians.
Why do you say Arabians give you grief? I agree that a lot of them are more high-strung, but the personalities can be so darn cute you have to forgive them. Mine was, anyway. She was a little stinker sometimes but she had this way of looking at me over her shoulder through her long forelock that just melted me every time. Dang, I really miss that horse sometimes…had to sell her when I went off to college. sigh
Before I say anything else, I just want to let all of you know that there are good horses in every breed.
That said:
DON’T BUY AN ARAB, PASO FINO, TENNESSEE WALKER OR WHATEVER!!!
Buy a MORGAN. They’re the best- the Rolls-Royce of the Horse world! ![]()
They’re quite intelligent, gentle, and easy to ride b/c their gaits are so smooth. They’re also an ‘all-purpose’ horse; you can use them for Western, English, Dressage, Roping, Cow-cutting, Driving, ect. Whatever you want to do.
Just be careful… Some people are starting to do inbreeding with them, and those ones aren’t any good. Make sure to get an “Old Fashioned” Morgan.
My problem with WHOA is that it means “stop”…and I just can’t seem to stop buying whistles! ![]()
Now, on the horse topic, my first lesson horse was an Arab, and he was a wonder…gentle enough for the youngest, newest student to ride (I’ve seen him carefully sidle under a toppling youngster to keep her on his back), but spunky and able enough to be fun for the most experienced rider, especially on the trails. On the other hand, the nuttiest, giddiest horse in the stables was a Morgan gelding…I didn’t even like to work around him (let alone get on him), he was so spooky and skittish.
Never ridden a gaited horse of any breed…I’m into dressage anyway, and rather like to trot, so a Walker or a Paso wouldn’t be my cup of tea. I’ve heard they are nice natured animals, though.

P.S. I move we change E=Fb’s name to “Enharmonic” (grin)
