Olwell question

Hi,

Someone sent me a flute-wanted-to-buy ad in which he’s seeking a used 8-key Patrick Olwell flute. I’m pretty sure such a beast doesn’t exist, as my memory tells me that Patrick doesn’t make 8-key flutes, only 6. Rather than interrupt Patrick’s day with a phone call, I’m posting this message here…if any of Patrick’s friends or customers on this forum can confirm whether Patrick does or doesn’t make 8-keyed flutes I’d appreciate it.

As far as I know, it’s an option that Patrick is working on offering in the future.
But with the wait now, maybe it will be an option for our kids :laughing:

hi Brad, I have a price sheet from him dated March 2001.
On that is listed the 5 key with an option of additions including
long doubleF. Then he says ‘A Note on Foot Keys: I am not currently
putting the two “lowest” keys.. They are under R & D for the future.’

This thread raises the question in my mind as to which makers do offer an 8 key flute. After checking a few websites, I came up with Grinter, Mcgee, Wilkes, and Hamilton, though I assume there are others. Anyone aware of other 8 key makers?

Tom Aebi makes 8-key flutes. Rob Cameron does too, as does Peter Noy. Bryan Byrne will probably make them eventually.

Pipemaker Dave Williams makes 8-key flutes (or used to, anyway; I own one), and Ormistons come in 8-key setups too.
