Olwell Flute on Ebay

Actually, Casey’s in Kingston, not “Kingington”, but I’m sure that was just your keyboard hiccuping. And Kingston is less than 4 miles from Indianola, an easy walk. The quickest way to either town from the mainland is the Edmonds-Kingston ferry. Mary, by “starting out” in Indianola, do you mean that you grew up there or were born there?

If you’re in Seattle on a Sunday afternoon you should drop by Fado on First Avenue for the weekly session. It starts at 4 and runs to around 7. It’s an “intermediate” session, so quite welcoming and low-key. No, it’s not for C instruments, I mean it’s tolerant and easy-going.

My bad…

No worse that driving from Bremerton to Edmonds to get to Kingston!
When Kingston is in between Bremerton and Port Townsend.
Yeh, I know she mentioned stopping in Seattle!

That reminds me of the old Bill Cosby routine – he talks about people in Seattle lying out in the rain to get a “rain tan”. People compliment each other on how wrinkled up their skin is. And when the sun comes out, they shield their eyes, wondering what they’ve done to offend the gods.

I was sent to Port Townsend for work once (!). What an incredibly lovely place. It reminds me of the New England coast (where I grew up).

One thing about Port Townsend is that it is in something of a rain-shadow. So there are more sunny days up there, and you are right, it is stunningly beautiful.

We are probably going to be based in Port Townsend for our stay, with forays to my folks in Bremerton where we can easily catch the ferry to Seattle for our side-trips.

We lived in Indianola for several years, having moved there when I was about four. I remember walking down to the beach all the time to play. We had a gorgeous wild garden with a small fish pond that hatched tons of tadpoles which fascinated me. These are some of my happiest childhood memories. Beautiful place.

…rain-shadow/banana belt… I’m about a mile north of the southern edge!

Port Townsend is lovely!

Just wanted to add another Northwest name to the list! I don’t post often but I do look. I’ve met Ryan and John C. And there is a session in Olympia on Wednesday nights. Later, John.

Hi John,
I will see you up there in late August. Is the festival still on?
I may even have learned another tune or two by then. I was thinking of making a flute without an embouchure, so I can “act like” I’m playing along.
The Olympia session is very impressive, 25 musicians every Wednesday!
Where are you-all playing now? Have you moved to another place?

Speaking of Olwell flutes on eBay, I just won me a Bb bamboo!

Hi JonC. The new session location is at Tugboat Annies in Olympia. The Annual Olympia Outdoor Session is August 27th. I’ll post more info on that when I get it. I’ll start a new topic just for that. Later, J.
