OK - I give up! What does NYAH mean?

(an old Irish word meaning lift or soul in music)

I wouldn’t describe it that way. Only in the sense that the term is a lot newer than you’d think and it’s not really a word.
Well it is but it’s more of sound word like ‘shush’ or ‘cockadoodledoo’
It doesn’t really have a translation because it doesn’t really need one.

The trad equivalent of “soul” or “groove” in jazz or blues, that comes out in the “lift” and spirit of one’s playing.

Thats it.

“NYAH” = the opposite of “BLAH.”

Perfect!

Bollocks. The Dubliners have the Nyah.
Sean Nos is fine, but the Dubliners have the Nyah.

Mukade

Nope, sorry. Clancy Brothers wannabes.

djm

The Nyah is weak in this one.

I greatly expect that the Clancies and Dubliners–if asked, and maybe even if not–would express nothing but substantial mutual professional respect.
