I have experienced o-ring failure on a susato once..but it was due to a failure to keep the whistle lubricated. The whistle became dry, the o-ring got pulled out of it’s groove and stretched.
Much as I’ve been somewhat puzzled by KelhornMike’s posts about the company in here sometimes, they were very gracious and sent me two replacements free of charge and advised me to keep the whistle lubricated with some vaseline.
My experience was exactly the same as Wandering’s. I seldom take these whistles apart, so am pretty negligent about lubricating. I’ve also had this happen to a Burke, and Mike also promptly sent me a couple of replacements.
If one never changes the tuning on a Susato, how often should one disassemble it just to lubricate it? I never thought of that before this thread.
Too much grease and they never stay where you want them, either.
