Knowing that C&F’s the font of all knowledge, well all knowledge in the known universe, (right thats the grovelling done
)
So here’s the question……
….. anyone out there play the balalaika? ‘cause I need help.
Richard.

I never took up the, er, bakeliteka (nor the domra), but this may be a form of Ukrainian resistance. I had friends who picked the mi-mi-laïka family (i.e. domra, too), so I won’t bear you a grudge.
Here is a full on-line beginner’s course, in English, for boilaleica (unfortunately, no domra):

maybe you’ll find some answers?
I see there’s also a full downloadable version: http://www.kaikracht.de/balalaika/english/school/school.pdf
Now, if you’re already an advanced player, here may be a source, or a contact. Don’t get cold feet from the Rachmaninov name: they apparently teach piano, but also barkalaïka. And domra, too.
I understand they have a correspondence course:

It was my first instrument as a kid for lessons. I hated it. Fortunately a shipping boom went through the crate it was in and killed it dead through the center. No more lessons. ![]()
