O'Flynn Reel 1968

Liam O’Flynn won an Oireachtas competition in 1968 (I think) and played at the concert (I think) two reels, Colonel Frazer followed by another that I believe I’ve heard Felix Doran play.

Anybody know the name of this second reel??

Thx, Eric

If this reference turns out to be too obscure, I’ll see if I remember how to play it, and post the notes.

Okie dokie, I think this is the tune, but I should note that O’Flynn didn’t ornament it much (although he did uncharacteristically pound away at the regulators).

I was actually confusing it with Felix Doran’s version of Toss the Feathers, but I realize now it’s not.

Surely someone knows the name of this simple tune.

Eric,

No name springs to mind but The Bothy Band recorded that one.

I’ve heard the competition recording that you mention. His piping there sounds distinctly “rowsome-ish” (Leo being a teacher of his I believe) and it is certainly from a time before his playing fell under the spells of the great Mr. Clancy.

Harry.

Thanks Harry,
Your right. It’s Famous Ballymote from 1975.
