Hi everyone, greetings from your friendly neighbourhood EU-based whistler!
A friend of mine recently showed me her newly obtained Generation high F. It was so utterly, utterly sweet sounding that I just have to have one! Perhaps it was one of those rare good ones, but I want one anyway. (WhOA anyone?) Fortunately, they’re not expensive.
Now the problem is, I’m not going to Ireland anytime soon. When I order a more expensive whistle, I’m willing to pay for airmail costs, but for such a cheap whistle, this seems like a shame. And I’m on a tight budget, as I just bought a Tony Dixon Plastic/Aluminium High D.
Does anyone know if these whistles are somehow obtainable from a more close-by source? Say, somewhere in the Netherlands, Germany or Belgium? Whistles from the UK still have to pay for air-mail, so bigwhistle is probably not an option.
Generations were always readily available in the Netherlands. There are several people playing in Enschede (Han Speek, Rob van Dijk) they might be able to give a few pointers. Places like Staffhorst in Utrecht should provide you with whistles but I suppose Enschede or Arnhem will have musicshops that stock a few too.
another fellow whistler from your home country here, there is also a shop in amsterdam: www.berkelmuziek.nl also must have them besides the kerry whistles they sell.
but I support the celtic shop in bergen op zoom, they sure have them, besides chieftains and shaws.
won’t hurt to make a few phone calls to find out but I take it, you will have to test before buying as usual with generations or know how to tweak.
