O'Briain "Original" vs."New" Improved

Hey gang, have any of you played both the “original” O’Briain improved and the “New” Improved? I’ve got a nickel body/green top original improved (thanks to Blackhawk  ) that I really like, and I’m wondering how the newer version plays and sounds compared with the type I have.

And yes, I realize the “New” Improved isn’t really that new any more.

uhh, I actually don’t know which mine is. I have one of these except with the green top that I got about a year and a half ago. whatever it is I love it

cheers,
Sara

I get the impression that the older one’s (original improved) had green and red tops, while the pictures I’ve seen of the latest version has a black top. I believe the sticker is different on the new one’s as well.

Is this the OBriain Improved Feadog you are talking about? I have heard of them but don’t know who sellls them.

I’m wondering how the newer version plays and sounds compared with the type I have.

Buy one and find out . . .

mine’s brass tube and green top, bought it from someone here on the board.

Best whistle I’ve got.

I didn’t know there was a NEW improved, how could that be?!?!?!?

In fact, I’d buy another one, just to have a spare.

Sorry Loren, but in my dotage, memory dwindles more each day. I had an Improved and also had a Pro which may have been the newer model you speak of. Got mine from a shop in Ireland that used to be spoke of in these parts but can’t recall the name. As I recall, he may still do internet business but the physical shop closed up some time ago. Hopefully, at least this response will jar more specific recollection by others for you. I sold both models to a fellow C&Fer about a year or so ago.

I can’t comment on how they play, as i don’t have one, but they are available here: http://www.whistleanddrum.com/Cillian-O-Briain-Improved-Feadog-Irish-Tin-Whistle-In-Brass-Key-Of-D.html

the link I posted is the shop in Cork, Ireland where I got mine. It’s called The Living Tradition and is my favorite music store that I’ve ever been to.

PhilO - there were two places in Ireland (that I know of) that sold O’Briain whistles, the one mentioned above and another in Dublin that closed. I don’t remember the name of that one though…

cheers,
Sara
