I know this is old news by now, but I have a friend who works at NASA and he said that it really wasn’t a window cover that fell striking the tail thermal tile. He sent me this top secret photo that explains it all:

Just goes to show that the current generation of astronauts really doesn’t have the right stuff.
Typical Generation manufacturing problems. If they had used a quality whistle it would have stayed glued to the Shuttle’s nose cone where it was intended to be.
