O.T.: Modest resorts in the Pittsburgh area?

My daughter is doing some heavy-duty lobbying to go to Pittsburgh next weekend to hear her favorite band. I’m not sure we’ll do it, but I was just wondering if anyone knew of a pleasant but not fancy place we could stay that would give the trip a little more vacation-y feel than a downtown hotel would. And if anyone happens to know if there’s a Sunday session anywhere in the area, I’d love to know about it.

Hi Carol,
I live about 45 mins outside of Pittsburgh, and although I don’t know of a place, I’m sure that I can find someone that does. I’ll ask around for you, if you would like.
And out of curiosity, if I may ask, what band is she dying to hear? :slight_smile:

Pittsburgh is an AWESOME city! You could spend a month there and not run out of things to see, without even trying. And, apparently there are sessions:

Having grown up there, I have a special soft spot for the Burgh. Don’t know of any resorts, but you’ve got to do the Incline, check out Oakland (near U. of Pgh), see the Phipps Conservatory; there are riverboats, Kennywood Amusement Park (great rollercoasters), Volkwein’s Music store, Pittsburgh Zoo, Sarah Scafe (?) Art Gallery, Carnegie Museum…I think you get the picture. I’m sure there are things I’m forgetting that are just as good or better! Too bad you missed the 3 Rivers Arts Festival, which takes over all of downtown and then some. Downtown Pittsburgh is a maze, but the great thing about that is, if you drive in circles long enough, eventually something will look familiar! (It’s not all that big.)

Yins guys have a great time, I’ll be there in a couple of weeks as part of my own vacation!

Thanks very much to both of you–I really appreciate your help! Pittsburgh sounds terrific. Heather, the band is Sum 41. True, my daughter just saw them a few weeks ago, but, well…you probably know how it is. :slight_smile:

Carol, have you checked out any of the online B+B websites? I always have good luck getting a nice place through them in the various places I’ve traveled too.
