After making reeds for about a year now I find that I’m swimming in staples. I want to keep track of them a bit better so I know the original measurements which produced them. Anyone have a good way of stamping a number on these things?
I use a carbide scribe to number the bottom outside of the staple. This requires a log of staples rolled. Benedict Koehler inscribes the measurements used (eg. .550-.620) to make the blank before rolling.
I roll mine between two files to close them and simultaneously give the outside teeth for the thread to bind to. I find it easier just to have a set of small drawers to keep them separate - one drawer per size/use.

Why don’t you colour code them with electrical tape,
five or six different colours, no problems, cheers mate. ![]()
