Did anybody else make it to the North Texas Irish Festival this past weekend? My wife and I drove up from Houston, but brought a head cold with us so I didn’t feel up to staying up until the wee hours looking for folks to play music.
Given it was their 25th anniversary I was surprised there weren’t more big name acts. I was glad to finally see Grada live, I saw Alan Doherty play in a small pub in Dublin a few years ago and wanted to see the whole band since.
I made it up for a few hours on Saturday
I was there all weekend. It was my first Irish festival ever, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I had a great time. I really like Teada, and I heard Cathie Ryan for the first time and really enjoyed her as well. I wanted to see some dancing, but there was always an impenetrable wall of people around the dance stage so I didn’t catch much. I did stay up Sunday night in the hotel and sat in on a couple of sessions. The first one was a bit over my head, so I mostly sat listening in awe; the second was more on my level so I played a few tunes with them.
