If NPU are really trying to promote piping around the world why are certain parts of their website restricted to members ie. the tutor.
I think all sections of the website should be open to everybody.

They need the money and this is an incentive to join

Membership is quite inexpensive, considering all the work NPU does. It’s a bargain.

Ask yourself how much you’d spend on a ‘night out’, including cab fare home and the cost of hangover medication and compare that to NPU membership. DJM is right, it is a bargain.
The membership fee equates roughly to what you would pay for one private lesson, but the Tutorial has a growing number of tutorials from great pipers and instructors. You wont get better value for money anywhere else. Most of us wouldnt be playing where it not for NPU. Support them supporting us.
The tutors aren’t restricted to members actually. You can open them without logging in as a member, unlike the downloads. I had no problem with paying for membership either considering what they do. It’s not just all their activities that it pays for but it also subsidizes projects like the Piper’s Choice DVD, and the CDs that they’ve released, stuff that probably doesn’t make a profit in this niche market of ours.
Edited to add that I wouldn’t have a problem with it if they made the tutors restricted to members. But then again, I AM a member… ![]()
Rory I think whit folk are trying to say is that ye are an unbelievably mean bastaerd

I am a member of NPU and have been for a good few years now,and its my concern for NPU and for piping in general that I think the tutor should be available to all. I would look on it as the bait that will get the isolated fledgling piper hooked. If NPU looked at the big picture and not the quick buck, giving free lessons online would be helping to set young pipers on the road to a life of piping.

Well, if you’re a member of NPU, why don’t you propose that it be included on the agenda of the next NPU AGM, where it’ll be discussed and voted on. You’ll have a better chance of seeing it through than raising it here where all you get is dog’s abuse … I mean, even the Scottish are calling you mean!!
Incidently, I recently learned that Canadians have a terrible reputation meanness (in the financial sense), particularly when on vacation in Mexico. In fairness, they suffer by comparison with the American tourists in Mexico, but anywany here’s the joke: What the difference between a Canadian tourist and a Canadian canoe? The canoe will tip.
What’s the difference between a Canadian and a coconut?
You can get a drink out of a coconut.

Funny you should say that, not only am I a member of NPU but I am also a member of the local MOB club (miserable old bastaerds) its like the mean bastaerd club except we think mean bastaerds are nice people. Thats not to say I can be a bit mean myself, my wife thinks I’m so tight ,that when I fa-rt only dogs can hear it.
But I still think that NPU website lessons should be free to all.
How much is it for piping lessons if you go to Henrietta St,or any other teachers that give lessons ,how much do you charge?
RORY
If we amalgamate then we could have the MOMB Club…
I used to teach for free.I say used because I don’t teach anymore (not that I think any of my students have noticed) ye can’t get any meaner than that… ![]()
