Now they change reed position by this way with GHB

This made to help tuning pipebands chanters …

Now that’s clever!

They’ll eliminate the need for people to play the things at all next!

Great, at last an easy fine adjustment of the reed - no risk of splitting it as you do not have to take it out ever again.

However… do you really want the top end of your chanter cut off to fit this device :astonished:

Maybe it could designed better…but i think it’s nice idea. If I remember rigth some german pipemaker (Jens Kuntzel) have samekind adjusting system for
drone reeds..

What is the point :boggle: Piob Mhor reeds are two a penny and last not for long anyway on average…pointless utterly pointless the more so as this is an Uilleann Pipe Forum… :astonished: GHBers awa and find your own forum…go on aff wi ye :imp:

C’moon , this is just a new" idea "..perhaps sometimes influence from somewhere otherside of bagpiping can give US=UP players more to think about …

Surely to goodness there is enough to be getting on wi as it is

Andreas Rogge already implements this Idea with his chanters, only it is a small screw that is fitted on the side of the chanter at the back d, and is designed to screw in and change the pitch of the back d by reducing or enlarging the diameter of the chimney.

Not quite the same idea as in the picture above..That screw is particular to some of his chanters for Middle D. He uses the sliding reed trick on his regulators which is very useful indeed. As for the ginormous millers wheel attachment for the above daft wee reed of limited life expectancy, why bother.ye don’t really have to bother with the uilleann reeds really.Just be careful.
Enough already..

Splitting a chanter at a rather crucial part of its internal design and then adding a bunch of metal near the epicenter of vibration… It’s fun to experiment but it’s a bit like putting air conditioning in a Model T.

Seems like a bad idea to me. I’ll be damned if I let someone hack up my old Sinclair chanter to put that thing on. The more moving parts, the more there is to go wrong.

I can see possibly allowing someone to disarticulate a chanter out of some synthetic material, but a wooden chanter, no fecking way.

Disarticulate a chanter? Can I quote you on that?

Hmm…It’s not that bad of an idea in theory. Something like Andreas’ sliding regulator reed seat might be interesting to see applied to the chanter…He could probably come up with something less obtrusive than a huge knob on the side of the chanter, at least. That thing is SERIOUSLY ugly…

I’m not questioning if one really needs to use this or not!

The concept of a rotatable threaded insert, doesn’t sound like rocket science here. It’s just a step above the concentric tubing so many have tried or are now using.

Once the reed and insert are set, It should only need to turn plus or minus 90 degrees for adjustment. If the tollerances are tight, it won’t vibrate (certainly less than the tubing) and some beeswax on the threads is all you need to seal it.

Sounds like a project Brian Howard would embrace!

I think it has more merit for use in drones and regulators than chanters.

Please do. Disarticulate in the sense a body joint may be disarticulated, separated, removed from its adjoining part.

another exercize in that most anal of piping traditions.
