… notice that I am not yet considering myself a Low D Whistle Player… LOL! That’s going to take some time.
I bought a Howard Low D from Tim Greenwood from right here on the C&F boards.
I love it! It is such a beautiful thing, and the sound is wonderful… at least it will be when I master getting it consistant and accurate in the upper octave - no mean feat, I can tell…
I am listening to a great recording of Gravel Walk and hoping that I will be able to impersonate at least a smidgen of it within the month. I used to be able to play that fast, many years ago, and hope that some of that is still in me, LOL. I am having to learn some alternate fingering that I never need before (not that they wouldn’t have been useful, I just never recognized the need for them earlier). Learning to get clear and clean notes out on the high end is utilizing some muscles that hadn’t been awakened with the smaller whistles.
I can certainly see how each maker’s indiviual touch would make a lot of difference. I have not even seen another low whistle in person, so must accept the reviews of the well rounded folks here as to what is good and what is … well, still in need of work. I suspect that it would be me needing the work, no matter how good a whistle I invested in. I love this one.
I am glad I got this before I receive the tour model Weston Low D in a few weeks… I won’t be a total imbecile when I meet it. LOL

BTW - I couldn’t find the post about holding the whistle to one side, but with this biggie, I’ve got to to keep my right hand from stressing out, in order to cover those low holes - those low BIG holes!
