I went to the grocery store a couple of days ago to get my poor husband some NyQuil for his cold, and wandered aimlessly around a few aisles just for fun (hey, when you’re home with kids all day, going to the grocery store is excitement! ). In the school supply aisle my eye was caught by a roll of bubble wrap.
Instantly I pictured a whole bunch of C & Fers rolling around, each with their own roll of bubble wrap in a big room, giggling insanely.
Will I ever be able to look at bubble wrap the same again??

I went to the warehouse at work Thursday to exchange a toner cartridge. What did I see but a big pile of industrial-size sheets of bubble wrap in the corner. They weren’t destined for any particular purpose–just sitting there waiting to be popped.
Now, my office is going to be painted and recarpeted in a few weeks, and I’m getting new furnishings. Sooo, I have to move completely out. Pack everything up and clear out of Dodge.
The perfect excuse for making a daily raid on that bubble wrap, wouldn’t you say?

I find that bubblewrap makes an excellent replacement for a duvet, or sheets and blankets. The air pockets are excellent insulation, so you stay toasty warm all night . In fact, it’s so warm, you get sweaty, but it’s easy to rinse clean too.
Oh no!!! Now I’m never going to view bubble wrap in the same manner again! Perhaps we should rename the Chiff and Fipple chat room “The Chiff and Fipple Bubble Wrap Room”? Cover the whole thing wall to wall in bubble wrap!
Ava… Settlers has to be one of the BEST games there is. I’m a bit addicted to it, want to play it everytime I go to my brother’s house (lucky him, he has all the sets to it). A party that involved Settlers must have been successful, no matter who won the football game.

Yup, four people. We actually played again tonight, just two of us, just for practise so I could learn more about it. I would have won but when I hit ten points (one was a Victory Point, and I had longest road and biggest army) I kept quiet so the game would continue. Within 5 minutes he got the army and road off of me, and the game was over in a flash. I didn’t mind, I knew I really won.
Sara - next time I’m in Utah we’ll all get together for a game!
My husband John and I usually can’t find games we like to play together: he loves strategy games like Stratego and Chess and stuff, and I love word games like Scattergories, Boggle, etc. A year ago Christmas we went to Arizona to visit his family and they had “Settlers of Cataan.” His family LOVES games and plays them all day long, so I thought “OK, another boring game to play.”
That game is sooo addicting! Within two games we were hooked and had to go to the mall to get our own copy to take home (regular stores don’t seem to have it…you have to go to specialty game stores). When Martin came to visit us in March, he and John stayed up late almost every night playing Settlers over and over. John is working on making an online version of Settlers so we can still play against Martin .
Oh yeah, and Martin had to get his own copy while he was here!
I like Settlers because there’s a fair degree of luck in the mix. People I play board games against used to complain that I won all the time, but I only win because they forget to try.
Yes, Cees, it was good to finally get the game out and play! I think we’ll be having more games evenings, with Christina, Amanda, Paul, Beth and myself, so we’ll probably be on the lookout for a couple more boardgames. Oh, and I’ve got several American cardgames too, like Rook.
btw, I now have two older incarnations of The Game of Life, a 1960’s copy and a 1980s copy, winging their way towards me off eBay. The game has changed more than once in it’s lifetime, and as I’m interested in game design (what game player isn’t?), I’m wondering why they felt the need to change it.
In TGOL, it’s 99% luck and about 1% decision making and choice. Settlers is probably about 30% luck, depending on the dice rolls.
The party went well, three of us brave souls sat up to watch the game, till about 3:45am. We were all supporting the Eagles, but they made a few too many sloppy plays, and the Pats deserved their win.
It’ll be interesting to see if either team can come back next year, with player, coach and a management changes.
