This is a spinoff from a recent thread of mine.
Here’s an alternative to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for anyone who wants to practice playing familiar tunes by ear. Midis for the themes listed here can all be downloaded from http://surf.to/midithemes
I list only themes I’m sure can be satisfactorily played on diatonic whistle. I list the note on which to begin each theme (root is bottom D on sop D whistle, 2 is E tone hole–octave is high D, etc) based on the midi versions from the site linked above. For exercise, I suggest listening to the midis to refresh memory of melody, and then instead of matching whistle key and playing along, play from memory on the sop D whistle.
Asterisks mean more than a little half-holing required.
Addams Family octave (intro on root)
Andy Griffith root
Beverly Hillbillies root
Black Adder octave*
Bonanza root (but need to cheat some notes in upper octave)
Cheers 4*
Daniel Boone 4
Flintstones 5
Flipper 5*
Gilligan’s Island 5 (but this modulates to different keys)
Green Acres 4*
Lone Ranger octave
Mash octave 5
Popeye octave 5
Young and Restless octave 2*
Please add to this list.
Have silly fun.
The famous riff from The Exorcist can be played on whistle–begin on 2.

The theme from Lassie!
I checked out the Lassie theme midi on the above listed site, but to me it sounded NOTHING like I remember, so keep looking…
