The Library of Congress announced today that they’ve acquired the recordings and footage that Alan Lomax recorded in his last 60 years. All Things Considered had a short story on the announcement today, and one of the clips they played was a couple of Irish men playing whistles in the kitchen in the 1940’s.
They had some other really cool clips, including some Italian longshoremen singing while they worked. This was many-part harmony and counterpoint, very tightly done.
