not OT: A new member of the family...

..this wee whistle was “born” today as a gift for my tiny little 6 year old daughter who LOVES math and whistle…

…odd little thing that she is..I love her…shown next to mommy’s D whistle

Oooh, that looks like a lovely whistle!

Say, I have a four-year old - too soon to try to teach her the whistle? (I know, she’ll end up getting better than me in no-time :stuck_out_tongue: ) She does seem interested!

Oh my, that’s gorgeous!

May we have a pic of mom & daughter playing? That would be a treat!

Beautiful whistles.

Davey, check your private messages.

Best wishes,
Jerry

DAMN YOU GUYS! I’m going to end up broke and divorced.

I am with jim_mc. I don’t need a wooden whistle I don’t care how nice they look. I don’t care how nice they sound.

When asked how many whistles were enough, the astute whistler replied just one more.
Ron

Why is that, just when, I’m about to settle and select my next whistle
(burke or overton, at around 100-120) someone brings out the
pictures of thin weasles or Brewers or… some beautiful whistle at
2-3 times the investment. AAAGGGHHHHH .. To wait and save
for wood being half way there, or buy what I want now, and start
saving from scratch for …

I got it. Maybe the wee bairn needs an older brother that Davey can
get another lovely whistle for! Yea that’s the ticket, just get adopted
and let parental obsession with fairness bring me the bounty of the
lovely wooden whistle … Yes I know that. Of course at 50 I can’t
be the the younger brother, thats why the wee one needs and
OLDER brother… older than the mother … well … ah…
how about older step brother … older than the father … hmm
… well … ah… how about older adopted step-step-brother …

May mother and daughter radiate how to …

does that mean you’re wealthy and married now ??

Resistance is futile gentlemen. Succomb and be one with the wood.

Doc

Beautiful! Now that’s the way to spoil your bairn.

…you should have seen her little eyes sparkle when I gave it to her today…

“For me?! REALLY?! For KEEPS! FOREVER!”

It’s even more fun watching her play..she also plays violin and piano quite well…but when she’s counting rests she still has to do it out loud…

da da dee da “rest rest rest” da da dee da "rest rest rest “dee dee daah”

..she keeps me in stitches!

Well, you know how it is, you’ve got to take the good with the bad…

Hey..need some aesthetic input…I made this one for myself..just for fun…I encased the blackwood fipple entirely in silver…my wife thinks this is a wee bit of overkill…but I quite fancy it..and it’s got a lovely weight to it. I’m making one for her to match..except withe less silver…according to her ALL instruments should be blackwood and silver…I guess cocobolo wasn’t what she had in mind!

anyways…I REFUSE to submit a poll..but..just some feedback please…do you folks think the silver encased fipple is overkill??

Well, from an aesthetic POV, and fully realizing that tastes differ, while I like the silver on wood concept, I’m not sure I really like one with that much silver on the wood. A silver, or in this case silver-covered. mouthpiece is nice, and I really like the silver accent band at the bell end, but the area covered at the top, IMHO, detracts from the beauty of the wood.

Your daughter’s whistle is a real gem, by the way. What key?

Davey, all it needs are bellows, bag, drones and regs!

…And a stop key.

Davey, that’s a great looking whistle.
I think the silver looks really nice.

I think the silver head is very nice looking, but it seems a shame to cover up blackwood with it. The idea of a silver head on a blackwood whistle sounds appealing, but making a blackwood head and then covering it up seems like a waste of the beauty of the wood. On the other hand, it probably affects the sound differently, making it more what you’re going for tonewise…
