not IRTRAD but definately trad

I just had the best evening watching & listening to a true carrier of the Old Time traditional music. Basing his performance on Appalachian traditional religious music, Ron Short drew from his past and present and gave a powerful program of “old Baptist” and original songs. From his rendition of “Man of Constant Sorrows” as he heard his Daddy sing it to the final song- composed to be sung at his own funeral- it was just powerful.
The REAL thing.

He is with Roadside Theatre and Appalshop out of Whitesburg,Ky.

I am extremely jealous. I love that music.

This guy is just so talented. An acclaimed actor, playwright, and true traditional musician. I tried to find a link that would give some audio but failed to find one. Just think of Ralph Stanley’s version of “Oh, Death” and multiply that …

I’d love to have seen that. Along with blues, Scottish and Irish tunes and songs, that’s the stuff I most enjoy playing and singing.

I don’t resent that more people prefer Nashville and countrypolitan, whatever that is, but give me genuine Old Timey any time.

I guess I like it because I grew up with it. I truly do NOT like country and some bluegrass is ok, but not really my preference.

It’s just really nice to hear someone with no pretentions performing from their heart and soul.
