As promised, here are some pics of last Sunday’s gathering of the Northeast contingent of Chiff and Fipple. Although the group was not large, a splendid time was had by all. It was really terrific to finally meet the nice folks I’ve been corresponding with for so long. Slowair also took some pics and MPEG with sound, which he will post .
A WHOA sufferer’s nightmare
There’s a rack of Sweet whistles and fifes on the right, my hoard of whistles, flute, bones, etc in the left foreground and other peoples’ stashes on the rest of the table. Gunther brought along Bloomie’s “whistle case”: aka the red tool box in back.
Non-whistle items of interest in this pic are Slowair (Mike Reagan), Walt Sweet, a Chiff lurker who I believe was named Mike (speak up, man!), Robin aka Spittin in the Wind, and some fellow with a European accent…

Patrick Dunn, meself, 3 of Patrick’s friends, Walt, same European dude, and Mike(?)

Robin and “Mike”-- note the Sweet wooden low D with a side blowing adaptor made from Home Depot parts. Funky looking but playing in that position puts your wrists and fingers in an easier playing position. It simply slips on and off.
Note Robin’s burly and rather menacing husband in the backround, keeping an eye on Robin and “Bloomie”…

Patrick and a friend playing a pair of Busmans

Mike and Robin

Patrick and that same European fellow. I had really assumed that this was Bloomie, only to find out afterward that Bloomfield had sent his whistle teacher Gunther in his place. Extreme shyness? Embarassing physical deformities? Who knows? Anyway, Gunther did him proud-- he’s a good player and gave me some very good tips about improving my whistles.
