North Carolina - Grandfather Mountain?

Evening all,

I’ll be playing with the Blair Band from Nashville this weekend at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina.

Anyone out there planning on going? Should be hoot!

Patrick.

i found out my group is playing at grove# 3 all weekend. ill find out where you guys are playing and come by.

A hoot? We’ll make you a card carrying Southerner in short order if you talk in that manner any longer.

GRITS!!! Patrick and Grits!! We gotta have girts and fried catfish at the tionol. Somehow Eileen won’t be buying this

What are grits?

Also, why would you eat fried catfish and not liver?

YEE HAW! :astonished:

Shaping up to be a busy but great weekend. Just heard that a bunch of Scottish psychos I know called “Albannach” will be there so that’ll be good auld craic altogether now :smiling_imp:

PD.

Actually, grits are not as odd a dish as some might think. They are a kind of porridge, gruel, kasha, or whatever you call the grain-based hot dish served at breakfast (or at other times in the day). In composition, they are similar to polenta (ground up hominy) or ghomi (a dish served oddly enough in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia).

In the Low Country of South Carolina, Georgia (of the USA), grits are often served as a main dish with shrimp and brown gravy. Yum.

It ain’t the grits that’ll git you, it’s those darn fried up “hush puppies”. They’re kinda like heart attach pills.

think of hush puppies as cormeal doughnut holes  I do like grits and shrimp-I just may go make some for tomorrow nite

I haven’t heard “Albannach”. I see these “Costume Celtic” bands at the Highland games and I find them to be an obnoxious phenomenon. I hope “Albannach” are different.

It’s all so formulaic. Just put on a garish costume, bang out a loud, repetitive rhythm on drums and insert any bagpipe tune of choice. However on the grand scheme of things, there isn’t a lot of difference between them and most pipe bands either. :smiling_imp:

Cheers,
Aaron

Thanks for the link. I listened to several tracks. Sounds like more “Costume Celtic” with a dash of “Celtic Mysticism” too. I thought the singing was the best feature. Fair play to them.

Are there any clips of the Blair Band?

Here you go:

Please remember some of the tracks were recorded years ago. This is kind of a “best of” CD.

Good luck,

Patrick.

grits are a doller

(caint you read the menu?)

Ever heard of Cream of Wheat? Same thing, only made out of corn. If you have an interest in discovering grits as they ought to be discovered, do not procure the instant variety… folk have been shot for less.

Anyone ever heeard of ‘shoepeg corn casserole’?
A fellow from GA, when I was in the Navy said he
liked it..

what the?!
:boggle:

oh, what the heck does that have to do with UP?

Hey Patrick! Sorry I’ll have to miss Grandfather this year. I was introduced to the pipes years ago there, Phil Sexton had his pipes out and I was amazed. Ric had been in contact with me a few times to fill in for you when you were busy, but nothing ever materialized. I about played with the Blair band in Florida back in February. Have a blast up at Grandfather Mtn., and make sure you visit the “Wild” Side!
