I just came home from a concert by Kennedy’s Kitchen. Their lead whistler, Nolan Ladewski, is the nephew of the group’s founder, John Kennedy. He is 18 and plays unbelievably. If you have a chance to check them out sometime, go for it. They’re based in South Bend, IN.
I saw Kennedy’s Kitchen at a local festival a couple years ago and really enjoyed their music.
They play “The Star of Munster” on one of their CDs, that track is one of the most listened to in my small CD collection.
I’d like to add a few comments about my favorite whistler Nolan Ladewski and my favorite Band Kennedy’s Kitchen. I get to see Kennedy’s Kitchen play frequently. Several of the band members sit in on a Monday night session in South Bend. Nolan is almost always there, playing something that he has composed. He is a great whistle player and a fine composer.
Nolan is playing Sop. Sindt, Water weasel, with a Overton on order.
His pride and joy is a Overton A given to him by none other than Brian Finnigan. I hope all you whistle music lovers will take some time to check Kennedy’s Kitchen on myspace.com to see just how well Nolan plays.
Google Kennedys’s Kitchen for their schedule.
I had a chance to ask Nolan during the break what he was playing last weekend and he told me it was a Glen Schultz that he had received from a friend. It sounded beautiful; what a sweet tone! I really envy your being able to see them frequently. We have a nephew and family in South Bend, maybe it’s time for a visit…
Bill,
Spring is a good time to visit the South Bend area. The best place for Irish music in the area is Fiddlers Hearth. www.fiddlershearth.com
Check their entertainment schedule. the last weekend in April Kennedys Kitchen plays on Friday evening, and Millish plays Saturday evening.
We are very lucky to have good Irish music in the land of the Fighting Irish.
