Newbie says Hello - and can you tell me what this tune is?

Hi to everyone,

this is my first post and I’d just like to say how informative and interesting I’ve found this forum while reading through posts.

I have a Dixon brass D and an MK Low D … and love them both to bits!

So … here we go with my first question on the CFWF …

I heard a tune at a session some while ago and can only recall the first part of it. I’ve recorded what I can remember of it here http://www.box.net/shared/6s4nmlrig4 and was wondering whether anyone could tell me what it’s called?

It’s sending me mad and I’d dearly like to know how the rest of it goes.

Many thanks

Chris

Welcome to C&F. Your recording sounds like “Autumn Child”. A well known version is played by Lunasa on their Otherworld CD paired with “Heaton Chapel”. You can find the ABC’s on thesession.org at:

I won’t vouch for the transcription.

Hope that helps.

That’s absolutely spot on … many thanks for saving my sanity.
Cheers

Chris

If you like that tune, you might also check out “Return From Fingal”, which coincidentally, Lunasa does a nice version of. It has a similar “feel” to “Autumn Child”. I’ve always liked them both.

Hi Jason,

thanks very much for suggesting this tune - it’s a lovely one and another to add to the steadily increasing repertoire.
I’ve only had my red MK whistle since February but it makes sitting down to learn new tunes - or practise old ones - a real pleasure.

Cheers
Chris
