Newbie has problem with an Oak

Hi everyone,

I recently decided to try out whistle-playing to help relieve stress and clear my mind.

It seems like most people have trouble getting the mouthpiece off of their whistles, but the mouthpiece on my Oak is too loose! After I took the Oak out of the box, I gently tried to rotate the mouthpiece to line it up with the holes, and it came right off.

The mouthpiece stays on fine as long as it’s pushed all the way in, but when pulled out slightly, it slides around a little too easily (in any case, the whistle sounds healthy). Did I get a new model, or perhaps a defective or refurbished item? It came from the Whistle Shop, by the way.

Should I just wrap a piece of scotch-tape around the end of the body so that the mouthpiece fits over it? I’d go ahead and try, but I don’t have any tape right now. Anyway, thanks for reading this.

Best regards,
Aaron

You might try fitting some Teflon tape between the fipple and the body to get it to fit tighter. I’ve never had a whistle do that. You might just have a bad one, although I think all Oaks are bad (I’m in the minority on that, though).

Teflon tape! Teflon tape! The next best thing after Austin Mini Coopers and a whole lot cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try the tape.
