It was pretty bad. But I like Scarlett Johansson, so I saw it…

Oh gee, I wish I’d known there was something exciting on TV. I spent the evening eating Christmas candy and reading. My husband and kitties fell asleep around 11. I did hear some firecrackers at midnight but it didn’t seem like there was anything in particular I felt like I should do so I just kept reading. Happy New Year!

We went downtown around 7 pm and did the First Night celebration. Saw the Northwest Renaissance folks, and the Spokane Junior Symphony, and ended the evening watching An Dochas, the Celtic Nots, and the Haran Irish Dancers, then watched the fireworks and went home. (we were only going to watch the end of the Celtic Nots set and then go contra dancing, but by 11 pm we didn’t feel like dancing so we stayed for the next set.)

Today we got the Christmas decorations put away. Now the house looks so bare!

As usual, we had a quiet New Year’s celebration. I made my homemade pizza, without which the New Year simply wouldn’t come. We watched the ball come down in Times Square, and then I played Auld Lang Syne on our front deck on the whistle (I’d picked it out on the harp earlier in the day, but didn’t feel like lugging the harp out on to the deck). Johanna had a little glass of champagne (I on the other hand, had considerably more than a glass), which is probably what foiled her plans to stay up all night (she confessed this morning that she only made it to about 1:30.
