Probably not a big deal to you professionals, but I got my new Dixon tunable soprano D today! Maybe if I can pry it out of the hands of my 13 year old daughter I can see how I like it. My other whistles are Clarke Megs’, etc. The Dixon does seem to have a ‘cleaner’ sound than my ultimate cheapies, but not quite as charming, or ‘Oirish’, as it were. But, I’m still so new at this that ANY whistle is a gift from God.
Not that I play well at all, but hey, that’s really cool! I’ll never forget my first Dixon. And despite my Overtons and Burkes, it’s still one of my faves.
I really like the Bb Dixon tunable you sold me, blackhawk. It and my Dixon non-tunable D are the two whistles I take along on trips. I’m in Korea at the moment (again) - just came in from playing my Dixons on the top-floor terrace of the high-rise building I’m working in.
Of course, they sound pretty good at home, too. The Dixon Bb is especially nice for slow airs and late-night playing. The Dixon D was the best pure-sounding D I had until I got a Syn. If you prefer “pure” over “airy/chiffy”, you can’t beat them for the money, IMHO.
I’m glad you like that Dixon, Dana. You made it sound great that night at the Arms. I like Dixons in general…never had a bad one yet. If I didn’t have to worry about them melting in a hot car in the California heat, I’d probably have never gotten involved in WhOA.
You’re kinder to my playing than I was that night, blackhawk. 
If my crazy schedule allows it it’d be nice to get together again sometime soon - at the rumored June get-together Tony said he’d host if not before. I’d offer to host a gathering myself but my schedule is so unpredictable I might have to cancel at the last minute. 
I’d enjoy getting together again when you have time. Tuesday evenings are still best for me unless we can include our families (now that I have one 
). My shift rotates in mid May and I’ll be working weekends for the next 8 months after that, so if there’s a Saturday whistler get-together, please give me as much advance notice as possible so I can get someone to cover my work shift. Don’t worry about having to cancel at the last minute. It’s just the typical Silicon Valley work schedule.
