Sometimes having WHOA disorder reaps unexpected benefits. I had ordered a Reyburn high D LB and Ronaldo offered to let me to be the first to try out his latest prototype instead. I am glad I took him up on the offer. I have enjoyed playing this new whistle very much. Although I have only been playing for a couple of years I have played several makers whistles and I would like to offer my thoughts on this new Reyburn whistle. I do have pictures but don’t know how to post them. If someone can tell me how, I will try.
It is a tuneable high D made of white cpvc with a black delrin head . You can see a thin portion of the white cpvc in the fipple. The tuning slide is cut into both tubes so the joint is very sleek. The whistle is pure in tone and has a full, beautiful sound. It is a fairly loud whistle with a strong low end. The transition to the second octave is clean and crisp, very responsive. It doesn’t require a lot of pressure to maintain the high notes. Breath requirement is low to average and has no clogging problems. It came in a very nice upholstery material bag with a draw cord.
Customer service was great. I ask a lot of questions sometimes and Ronaldo always answered. The first tube came with a closer hole placement than I was used to and after telling Ronaldo he spent a day re-doing the hole placement and sent me another tube to try at no charge. He wanted to make sure I had his finest work. The hole placement was longer and more comfortable. I thought the intonation was great with the first tube but Ronaldo says the longer hole placement on the second tube improved the intonation. Looking at the attention to detail on this whistle you can tell he enjoys his work very much. I’ve had this whistle for a few weeks now and after a couple of days comparing it to my other whistles, it has received all of my playing time. The whistle sold for $70. I recommend this whistle whole heartedly.
