I’ve added a couple of new useful features to PalmABC, the most excellent freeware .ABC player for Palm V and later Pilots:
Ability to search and do repeat searches through the tune titles for a string. Useful if like me, you have 1500 tunes in the .ABC database. The search strings are currently case-sensitive.
More stylistically accurate playback of short and long rolls
To install the updated version:
Download and install the original PalmABC software from the PalmABC home page using the installer:
I tried in on my Palm III, didn’t work there, but did work on my Palm V. Probably worth a try, my guess is that the code uses features that were only supported in a particular version of the PalmOS and later.
There are editors and players for both Mac, Windows, and Palm devices, as well as literally thousands of tunes available in .ABC format from JCs Tune Finder:
Finally, but too bad! I have been looking for a program like this for a while, but alas! It doesn’t work for me. I can install the PRC file OK, but Windows 2000 is not letting me install the conduit. It fails on a registry error. So, all I end up with is the two default tunes. Time to reinstall Windows 98?
I had the same problem installing the conduit on Windows 2000, sent an email to the author. I am able to get it to work on Windows 98. Hopefully he’ll come through with an update or make the conduit code available. Alternatively, I’ll see what I can do to write my own conduit or come up with a manual procedure for Win2K.
