I’m extreemly new to whistling and just found the Chiff & Fipple site (which has become a new home for me lately), I figured I’d register and say hello to everyone.
I picked up a Clarke’s Original and was kinda trying to self learn from a few sites, I’m now waiting on Bill Ochs Tutorial and CD along with a Sweetone and Clare. Hope thats not overdoing it, but then everything says its good to get more then one whistle to start with, right?
I’m very excited about learning and playing and hopefully I’ll be around alot more in the future!
Sure, you’re doing all the right things. The Sweetone is almost guaranteed to be a great whistle, very easy to play and in tune. The Clare is very good too, and a rougher, more traditional tone. Bill Ochs’ tutorial has been very well recommended. And you’ll have a lot more than 2 whistles before you’re through!
Welcome to the asylum! Don’t mind the Chrystal Pe//////////////TRANSMISSION ENDED///////////////////////////
It does sound like you’re taking the right steps, and 3 whistles is NOT too many - if nothing else, the three you’ve chosen are different enough to give you some idea of the range out there.
Most of all, have fun playing - everything else will come with time, if you’re enjoying yourself along the way.
Hey Roh Welcome
I’m pretty much new here too. You will find lots of great tips here using the Search or there’s always somebody willing to answer any questions you have, even the “really-dumb-unbelievably-embarassingly-stupid-you-look-back-on-a-month-later-and-can’t-believe-you-asked” questions! Not that THAT would apply to me. Your sweetone will seem like whistlin- Dixie after blowing on a Clarke Original for a few weeks! enjoy!
Thanks for all the warm welcome! After reading through hours and hours worth of threads on this page I find myself impatiently waiting for my order to come in!
Not to mention after reading through some of the threads about tweaking the clarke whistles I find myself eyeing mine now and then. Though I SUPPOSE I should waiting untill I know what Im hearing before I break out the tools…
