New To Whistlin in Chicago

Hi all! I’m new to whistling (only been doing it about three months)and have just hit a block in learning. By all accounts, I’m doing fairly well, and have started incorporating strike and cuts, but I just can’t play fast enough to make rolls sound right. Do I just need to keep practicing for the next 6 months or a year before I can expect to tackle new ornamentation?

I’m finding it difficult to improv in songs. I suspect that I won’t do this well until I get moer advanced prnamentation down pat. I can hear what I want to do, but I can’t quite make my fingers obey.

Any tips from the kind folks here?

Load up on caffiene… it gives you the little extra twitch you need. :wink:
Seriously though, play rolls as slowly as necessary at first to learn the correct finger motions and gradually build up your speed from there.
Learning the correct finger motions first is very important since rolls can be a bit tricky to master.
Speed will come, just be patient and keep building up to it.
