I’m new to the board and just wanted to say Hi. I’m from Virginia. I play whistle, low whistle, flute and mandolin. I’ve driven my kids, the cat, and my husband insane with all of the above. This looks like a place where I can find friends who have also alienated the kids, the cat and the spouse. I look forward to chatting with all of you in the future.

nice to have another mandolin player here!
i also (try to) play the same set of instruments. my wife lets me play the mandolin during tv shows, but flute and whistle only during the commercial breaks (longer in germany than in the states).
btw: to get back on the cat’s good side, play the harmonica every once and while.

Don’t waste your time and go straight for the good stuff, an uilleann flat set of bagpipes.
Then you can annoy them in all seasons and inside too!

Check out the uilleann FAQ FAQ FAQ, pick a maker close to you (Seth Gallagher, Mark Hillmann and Pat Sky are the closest to you probably), get you a C set (or flatter, according to what you like) on order as some makers can have quite a long waiting list.
The tin whistle is a musical gateway drug that leads to the real expensive and harder to get drugs like uilleann bagpipes and wooden flutes…

My cat is the onely one indifferent to my whistle playing…actually, I think she likes it because the dog won’t come into a room when I’m playing the whistle…so she is safe!! Smart cat!!
The dog barks at me when I pick up my whistle..and leaves the room. My husband just sighs… I go to the opposite room in the house to play…he threatens..soon it will be warm again…and I will be banished to the outdoors.
